You can save significantly on
travel from within. Some of the most expensive trips cover
the shortest distance. But TWA has broken the mold and allows
15,000-mile awards for trips of less than 750 miles. Problem
here is that with the American acquisition of TWA, this may
soon disappear. So, if you have to travel on short notice,
irrespective of the distance, where cost is a factor and exorbitant,
consider using those banked miles and use the cash for trips

Once again, elite status comes
into play and if you do keep all those eggs in one basket,
achieve
first level with your airline, you can replace the miles
you use from your account for as little as $500 dollars. How?
Okay,
here is an example that's sure to please. Let's say you just
have to travel from Houston to St. Louis on short notice,
less than a week, and return the same day. The fare is over
$700.00
but you notice from seating charts that the plane is half-empty.
TWA/American will probably not (bet on it) lower the cost
of the fare directly to you but may allow an award seat for
15,000
miles. Keep that $700 in your pocket! Make your short trip
on miles and next fall; take a trip to London on TWA/American
for a fare in the $400 to $500 price range. Hey, you needed
a vacation anyhow and with your Elite status on TWA, put
14,634 miles back into your account and have the $200 to spend
on
